A Little History:
OESD began as a family-owned home embroidery business in 1987. Back then it was trendy to name your embroidery business after your home state, so that’s just what we did. Oklahoma Embroidery Supply & Design (OESD) was born.
And here we are – over 30 years later and still in OKC, Oklahoma! Visit us the next time you are in the area, we’d love to give you a tour. We now have over 50 employees and we are always looking for talented people to join our wonderful team in OKC!
In 1998 the world wide web was an exciting new frontier, and the tones of dial-up internet rang in our ears. Home embroidery machines were becoming more available, so we decided to try offering the embroidery designs we created on a website for sale. EmbroideryOnline.com (catchy name, right?) Back then it took almost 2 minutes to download an embroidery collection via dialup!
1998 really was a great year for OESD as we also created the first Freestanding Lace Design. This brought embroidery to new heights (literally), and we are still expanding and exploring all the amazing dimensional projects we can create with this technique.
OESD joined the BERNINA Textile Group (6th generation, family-owned Swiss Sewing Machine Manufacturer) in 1997. You can learn more about BERNINA on their site. While we are part of the BERNINA family, we don’t play favorites! What do we mean by that? We are honored to have friends across the industry. We work together with all the embroidery machine manufacturers to test our designs and supplies and collaborate on new features and ideas. In our studio, we test our designs on every brand of machine and a variety of models. (It’s pretty much embroidery paradise) You can trust that our designs will stitch out beautifully on the machine you love.
We have over 700 amazing retail partners across the United States, Canada, and even a few in England or Australia that offer OESD products in their shop. If you haven’t found your local OESD shop, please let us know! We’d be happy to make an introduction for you.
Even if a visit to Oklahoma isn’t on your travel list, we’d still love to meet you at one of our events! Every year we teach over 300 embroidery events around the country.
One of our favorite aspects of OESD is collaborating with designers and artists from all walks of life. Fabric designers, illustrators, chalkboard artists, watercolors and more. We are also blessed to have amazingly talented employee artists that help guide our creative process together with our team of educators and product experts. Our goal: to create unique and inspirational designs and supplies for your next project, gift, or creation.
